The Kamesko Bersh means Kam the Sun's birthday. It honours the yearly cycle gone by and celebrates the rebirth of a new yearly cycle.
The winter solstice as a phase doesn't take place on just one day, but it runs across a period of a few weeks, from roughly mid-December until just after the new year.
During this period we cross a bridge from the old to the new. And it is during this phase that we can work out what we wish to let go of from the old year so that we can embrace any changes we can meet in the new year. The idea of new year's resolutions could well be associated with this.
A few years ago people came from all over the world to take part in this age-old celebration. It provides an opportunity for us all to come together and share some music, dance, theatre, and fun, including a performance of the Rom Gypsy Nogo Jal Drom folk dance and some infectious dance music from Patrick Jasper Lee - perhaps as you've never seen him before! It's open to all. So bring the kids, bring the family, and bring all your friends. Note - discounts for groups of more than four people.
We want this to be a successful and respectful contribution to the winter solstice period and to our beloved Kam, the Sun, without whom none of us could exist.
Make a date in your diary for Sat Dec 14th. 2pm-9pm. Pass the word along. Prices on flier, left.
Folkdance!
This photo was taken at a Kamesko Bersh celebration some years ago, illustrating the colourful costume.
The Nogo Jal Drom Dance is is a folk dance performed by women to celebrate the existence of the Greater Ancestors (Sky, Sun, Moon and Earth), who watch over us. Each of the four dancers represents one of them, and their qualities or values.
This is a vibrant, colourful dance, exhibiting the colours we associate with each of the four Greater Ancestors. It expresses the togetherness that these natural-world ancestors have with each other as a family - our oldest family - which we as their children can share in.
Enjoy watching this dance and discover some of the background behind the dance at the Kamesko Bersh celebration.
Don't miss this beautiful and exciting performance at this year's celebration!
It is guaranteed to fill you with the joys of the natural creativity that are present in our natural world!
Party, trance dancing & singing!
Come along and let your hair down for some good rhythmic music, all of which has a sunny Kam theme.
We will also be doing some fun group singing to encourage Kam to return to us after the winter solstice is done. No one is obliged to join in, but singing is good for the soul! And it's nice to demonstrate to Kam just how much we love him!
Dancing to rhythmic music is also proven good for our mental health and wellbeing. Rhythm is what many of our ancestors in earlier times would have enjoyed, and we can now enjoy it here too in this wonderful artistic and ancient themed environment. Dance and sing along with your ancestors!
